Start your engines
The Honda Indy cruises into town this weekend for three days of fast cars, (potentially) faster women and lots of annoying road closures. Oh, and that dude from The Bachelorette is gonna be there, too.
Gettin' Fringe-y with it
The Toronto Fringe Festival is celebrating its 24th anniversary this year, and like most quarter-lifers, it’s figuring out who it is — and, from what we can tell, is doing a fine job of it. With 155 shows, including nifty site-specific locations (like a yellow school bus) and big names, the Fringe is finally growing up.
Bring your appetite
Foodies better keep their voracious appetites in check this weekend. With Summerlicious kicking off this Friday, in addition to the Roncesvalles Village Food Tour and the Junction Food Tour, it’s going to take a lot of will-power not to fall into a deep food coma.
Where no man has gone before (Richmond Hill)
Sci-fi geeks, if you don’t mind the jaunt to Richmond Hill, it will be well worth your journey: Polaris, Canada’s longest running media fan expo, is in town, celebrating sci-fi, fantasy and beyond. Guests include Wil Wheaton from Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Big Bang Theory and Robin Dunne of Sanctuary. So let your freak flag fly. Bazinga!
Not just for kids
Rediscover the child-within at the Toronto Animation Arts Festival at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Besides featuring hilarious and artfully-animated shorts and features, including the North American premiere of Ronal the Barbarian in 3D, there will be a ton of workshops and panel discussions, including one with John Kricfalusi, the creator of Ren and Stimpy.
