According to surveys conducted in Europe and the United States, pink is the colour most commonly associated with femininity. Of course, unless you've been living in a monastery for the past 100 years, you probably didn't need a survey to tell you that. Blazers, on the other hand, originated in the Royal Navy and the rowing clubs of 19th century England and, as such, have traditionally been associated with menswear.
Fashion, thankfully, isn't the least bit interested in upholding stuffy gender conventions. If it were, us ladies would probably still be wearing corseted gowns with at least six layers of undergarments. Fashion more often than not prefers to play with gender conventions, sometimes using masculine fabrics to construct feminine garments, or producing menswear out of delicate colours.
A pink blazer, by design, is the very embodiment of this rebellious spirit. And with spring being just around the corner, it's also ideal for the current season. The one here, by haute streetwear designer Alexander Wang, is a beautifully executed incarnation of the trend. Featuring a draped shawl collar, this blazer leans more towards relaxed than sharply-tailored, which is a nice pairing with the unassuming dusty pink of the fabric. It adds a feminine touch to a ripped denim and T-shirt combo, or if you're feeling extra girly, as part of an all-over pink pantsuit.
