Canon Blanc is Toronto's answer to elegant and approachable Parisian style. Started in 2012 by French expat couple Caroline Phely and Matéo Masquelier, the shop settled on the popular West Queen West strip before opening up an online store. Since then, Canon Blanc has grown tremendously—the brick and mortar shop is frequented by shoppers from all over the GTA and its online store has shipped orders to the U.S., Australia, Sweden, Germany, Korea, and yes, France.
This month, owners Phely and Masquelier took the next step and opened a second location in the Yonge & Eglinton area. The shop's assortment of stylish, well-made, affordable and ethically produced clothing and accessories has been embraced by midtown residents, and Phely and Masquelier thought it only made sense to get a little closer to them.
One of the most striking pieces currently available is the Union Embroidered Jacket by Pyrus, which is ironically one of the only non-French labels available at Canon Blanc. You wouldn't know it, though—the lightweight, hand-beaded jacket recalls the shape and cut of Chanel's classic tweed jackets. The key difference here is the intricate, blue and white hand beaded trim decorating the collar, lapels and sleeve openings of the garment. The tribal printed trim, in contrast with the techno shine of the jacket's Lurex-woven body, elevates the piece to statement-making status. Best of all, at $665, it's merely a fraction of the cost of a Chanel tweed jacket.
$665. Available online or in store at Canon Blanc, 2624 Yonge St., 416-484-1616
