Wanted: this embroidered dress from Bicyclette Boutique

As a responsible woman in her late '20s with a healthy social life, I've had to gradually come to terms with the fact that wedding season is a real thing that I must prepare for each spring. This isn't a grievance per se—a well-executed wedding reception with great food, heartfelt speeches, and unlimited alcohol is truly a thing of beauty. But as someone who'd rather lounge in ripped jeans and Nike slides than lace dresses and circle skirts, I find the process of shopping for a dress that won't make me look like a cupcake incredibly stressful.

That's why I'm grateful to shops like Bicyclette on Queen West. Although the clothing they carry is a tad too lady-like for me on most days, the fact that I can rely on them for feminine pieces with just a touch of whimsy really takes the stress out of preparing for these big occasions.

Their Emmy Rouge Embroidered dress in ivory (designed by Ark & Co.) is a great example of this aesthetic—elegant femininity with a touch of vintage charm. Much like traditional Western shirts worn by cowboys, the bodice is embroidered with bold and ornate flowers. The pearl Peter Pan collar and fitted-at-the-waist silhouette gives the dress a lady-like touch, while the overall simplicity of the garment make it the ideal wedding dress to feel good in, whether you're getting down on the dance floor or stuffing your face. Best of all, it's still understated enough that it won't run the risk of upstaging the bride.
