SOOP SOOP may be a new name on the Toronto retail scene, but as one of the city's most meticulously-curated boutiques, it deserves plenty of props. Since the birth of its online shop in 2012, the vintage and new retailer has quietly built a reputation among edgy fashionistas and west-end hipsters as the place to hit up if you're looking for something more than just your run-of-the-mill vintage dress.
While there's nothing wrong with a store full of plaid Pendleton shirts and silk blouses from the 1980s, it's refreshing to see vintage apparel that corresponds with current trends. And what's current in 2014 is unquestionably '90s sportswear.
In addition to the shop's abundantly-stocked Adidas track jackets and Calvin Klein denim, SOOP SOOP also carries high-end art and fashion magazines, as well as new apparel from Cheap Monday, Shallowww, and its in-house brand. I visited the shop over the weekend and immediately fell in love with the marble crewneck from Shallowww. Printed in Italy and made in Spain, the garment features brushed fleece on the inside and is made from high-quality, breathable cotton. This thoughtful fabric choice makes it the perfect layering piece for those early June nights and cool mornings.
