Wanted: these luxury sneakers from Hender Scheme

Luxury sneakers have long been a crucial element of men's streetwear. But for the past few years, the trend has grown in popularity among unexpected fashion subsets, such as prepsters, girly girls, and dudes who only wear bespoke suits and leather shoes handmade in Italy.

Part of the reason for this proliferation is a result of sportswear's continued dominance on the runways and in street style. After all, it was only a year ago that the super elite French fashion house, Balenciaga, appointed a 30-year-old sportswear designer from New York, Alexander Wang, as its creative director. The other part, I'm sure, has something to do with the fact that, when styled correctly, they look damn cool. After all, who doesn't want to channel Drake every once in a while?

Japanese footwear brand Hender Scheme has made a name for itself by creating high-end leather shoes that get better with age. They've released several lines of all-leather sneakers that pay homage to vintage designs of decades past, such as the Air Force 1s and classic New Balance trainers. Their Manual Industrial Products 08, available at Blue Button Shop (sort of like a Japanese A.P.C.), was modelled after the New Balance silhouette. The key differences include 100% undyed leather upper (causing the shoes to darken beautifully over time), hand stamped leather footbed, and a soft pink hue. Unisex like almost everything sold at the Dundas West boutique, these babies are sure to be a hit among fashion risk takers of both the male and female persuasion.
