Upgrading Lawrence West station

Like so many other residents who frequently use the Lawrence West subway station, I find it extremely frustrating to have an elevator out of service for so long. After this unacceptably long wait, the elevator is being fully rebuilt as part of a broader renewal of Lawrence West station. On the heels of the improvements being made to the Lawrence Avenue and Allen Road intersection, the station will soon be fully accessible, which is good news for transit users.

When work finishes at Lawrence West, transit users will find barrier-free paths within the station, an elevator from street and bus level to the subway platform, an accessible fare gate, an automatic sliding entrance door and wide platforms that accommodate mobility devices.

The TTC is also making “state of good repair” surface improvements at Lawrence West station. These improvements include resurfacing  the bus loop, which will be temporarily closed from June to November 2013 for upgrades. Riders may access buses on Lawrence Avenue West during this time. New floor finishes and the replacement of fence on the west side of the station property will also be undertaken.

The station will also be made safer with the installation of security cameras, intercom and enhanced lighting in the bus loop.

These positive changes at Lawrence West station, when completed, will enhance the riding experience by improving access, safety and usability of the station.

If you have any questions about these improvements, please contact my office, at 416-392-4027, or the TTC community liaison at 416-397-8699.
