HERVANA, an all-female Nirvana tribute band, is featured in this month’s Wavelengths festival. The band — Carly Beath (a.k.a. Skirt Cobain), Erin Saunderson (a.k.a. Miss Novoselic), Adrian Pasen (a.k.a. Dave Grrrl) and Michelle Turingan (a.k.a. Pap Smear) — formed in 2013 and cranks out grunge gems from Kurt Cobain and the boys. The band formed after seeing a tweet that read: “Toronto needs an all-girl Nirvana cover band named Hervana.” Check them out Feb. 13 at Sneaky Dee’s, wavelengthtoronto.com.

Vag Halen
VAG HALEN, are the undisputed (so far) queens of the city’s thriving all-female cover band scene and bill themselves as a “feminist art rock band.” It’s a scene that also includes the Weezer cover band Sheezer. Although the band’s name is a nod to Van Halen, Vag actually covers songs from a number of classic rock outfits, including Led Zeppelin. The band has played the prestigious Venice Bienale in 2013, with artist Shary Boyle, as well as the Bournemouth Arts Festival in the U.K. For show info, see their website. .
