For Toronto accessory junkies, Hide will soon become your little secret. True to its name — blink and you’ll miss it — the newly-opened leather accessories boutique is tucked away in the heart of Little Portugal. With a collection of leather belts, bags and bracelets on display, along with shawls, knits and other jewellery, Hide has plenty of unique pieces that will leave everyone wondering, “where did you get that?”
Having crafted leather goods for over 12 years, local designer and co-owner Susana Erazo has become well-known for her bags and belts, with stores such as Ziliotto and Dessa carrying her line. For her, Hide doubles as a studio and a shop. The back of the store is where she designs and develops the hand-crafted leather goods that are displayed throughout the store. The shop gives her the creative freedom to display her products how she chooses and also doubles as a showroom for buyers.
Carrying an array of vintage-inspired leather items — along with knits from local designer Katya Revenko’s line Desperately Different, shawls by local visual artist Jacob Horwood and jewellery by The Leather Atelier — there are plenty of great ways to accessorize an outfit here.
Small and structured, the vintage-inspired red Tiggi purse ($325) would add the perfect burst of color to any little black dress this season. Meanwhile, the sown-out pocket detailing of the brown Learman messenger bag ($479) will allow men to infuse vintage style into their office wear.
And of course, we cannot forget the belts. We loved a pure leather, deep burgundy saddle corset belt ($249), but for those who would rather the comfort of a leather-elastic mix, there’s always the handcrafted double buckle corset belt ($295).
