This weekend’s 15th Boobyball added a Paradise City twist to raising funds for Rethink Breast Cancer

This past weekend, piles of revelers donned tropical outfits and headed to Boobyball, the breast cancer fundraiser extraordinaire. Held at Rebel nightclub (formerly Sound Academy), the 15th annual party in support of Rethink Breast Cancer was given a ‘Paradise City’ theme which was by no means taken lightly. The eve saw an endless stream of inspired costumes walking down the pink carpet — from gigantic headdresses to dapper animal print suits to a trio of brown bears (though some were admittedly concerned that the bear was out of its natural habitat).

The highly Instagrammable soiree saw folks pile into a pink ball pit, pose with golden pineapples in a tropical forest and next to a faux cheetah (of course). Those who weren’t snapping away could be found on the dancefloor against a backdrop of beats by DJ Brains4brkfst, getting their nails and hair done, or checking in on the Jays game, which was of course shown on a big screen.

Party-goers also tucked into eats including ceviche, spring rolls and poutine from Planta, Kupfert + Kim, Panago, Earls Kitchen + Bar, and El Furniture Warehouse. A mac ‘n’ cheese station garnered great reviews, while trays of doughnuts were scarfed down quickly (word has it that some wild attendees mowed down on four).

Boobyball got its start back in 2002 when a group of girlfriends threw an event for their 23-year-old pal Sarah O’Regan, who had been diagnosed with aggressive, advanced breast cancer. Since then, the ball has raised over $3.8 million dollars for Rethink Breast Cancer — which places the focus on young women — and Sarah is happily a mom to three. The feel-good eve ended after midnight with Toronto's magical jungle creatures crawling off into the dark. Until next year…
