Love is beautiful, confusing, confounding, miraculous. Love is slippery. Love can knock you out. Love changes you. In TomorrowLove, a new and exhilarating immersive anthology from Dora-winning playwright Rosamund Small and acclaimed theatre company Outside the March, we are examining what love might be like in the future.
I’m 41 now, and already I live in a world I never could have imagined as a kid. I’m still blown away by touch screens — am I on the bridge of The Enterprise??! I feel like I’m living in a science-fiction fantasy. But the world keeps marching on, and what does the future hold for that most mysterious and attractive of topics: love? How are smartphones and nanotechnology and virtual reality changing the way we fall in and out of love with each other? Love changes us, sure, but do we have the power to change love?
The nerd in me is already excited! But wait — there are a few more twists. First, the audience chooses what encounters they want to have (there will be four scenes going at every moment, in different rooms, at any given time) and which actors to follow: which means every audience member will have a different experience — an experience that they help to craft. And also, every TomorrowLove story is written without gender signifiers and is playable by different combinations of our eight person-cast every night. The result: a journey beyond gender norms and into the deep and murky heart of love, a fascinating and very timely exploration of the basic human desire to connect.
You don’t want to miss this. I guarantee you’ve never seen anything like it.
