I love Jitters. I love it because the time and sensibility of the play was the theatrical world I grew up in. You could say we grew up together.

I was in the audience for its first opening night. I worked with many of the actors which David French based his characters on.

True story: my first professional Shakespeare, The Taming of the Shrew, at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Ga., I played Kate alongside Gerard Parkes who played Grumio. Patrick Flanagan in Jitters is based on Gerry Parkes.

And just as in Jitters, where the character of Patrick gives the younger actor a personal memento on opening night, I received from Gerry for Shrew a similar gift. Life imitates art.

I don’t know a play about theatre that is as funny or as true to the creative process as Jitters, including Noises Off.

It celebrates the vulnerability and fragility of what it means to be an artist. This is my third production of Jitters, and I am hoping that I can get through a rehearsal or performance without losing it … in laughter or tears.

With Oliver Dennis and the rest of this cast, good luck. You want to laugh, come see Jitters.
