The big list of October events, concerts and things to do with the kids in Toronto

This is our monthly compendium of all things worth doing in Toronto. With everything from standup comedy to opera, these are the events that you should plan your weekend around.

And before we get into planning our nights-out this month, here are a few this day in Toronto… moments for context. 

 

Historical Toronto dates

Oct. 1 (1960): Opening of O’Keefe Centre, with a premier production of the musical, Camelot staring Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet.
Oct. 2 (1984): The Metro Toronto Convention Centre opens
Oct. 4 (1982): Glenn Gould, one of the most celebrated pianists of the 20th century, passed away after a stroke
Oct. 7 (1912): Mutual Street Arena opens as Arena Gardens as the largest auditorium in Canada with the first artificial ice rink in Ontario
Toronto Civic Railways is established
Oct. 11 (1963): HMCS Haida was decommissioned (now a historical site and Museum Ship in Hamilton)
Oct. 15 (1954): Hurricane Hazel affects Toronto and kills a total of 81 people in Ontario
Oct. 18 (1918): Opening of Bloor Street viaduct
Oct. 21 (1966) The Spadina Expressway opens
Oct. 23 (1977): the statue of Sir Winston Churchill, located in Nathan Phillips square was unveiled
Oct. 28 (1968): The McLaughlin Planetarium opens
Oct. 26 (1974): AGO relocates to its present site on Dundas Street
Oct. 29 (1929): The Toronto Stock Exchance suffers its worst loss in history
