The BBC reports: People are being robbed at gunpoint for their Canada Goose jackets

Police in Washington D.C. are warning residents and tourists to be on the lookout for “Canada Goose” thieves, after a string of robberies occurred in the U.S. capitol.

According to police, between the months of December and February, there were at least seven reported robberies of  the luxury coats which can cost upwards of $1,000.

Many of the robberies took place near George Washington University, a prestigious private school in the nation which  has prompted the campus to issue it’s own advisory, according to a BBC article.

According to a report from Fox 5 DC, “Jackets have been taken off of victims, and in some cases, weapons have been brandished.”

As the BBC reports, back in December, couple said they were robbed of their luxury coats and attacked while out walking with their children.

Reports of the robberies first emerged in December, when a couple said they were attacked while walking with their young children in the northeast area of Washington DC.

Since that time, six more robberies have taken place including one that involved that the victims take off their coats at gunpoint, according to the BBC.

One of the victims told the local NBC News network that she believed the robbers were trying to pull off her Canada Goose jacket, but they did not succeed.

This is not the first time Canada Goose wearers have been targeted. Back in 2019, CBS News Chicago reported on a string of robberies which involved at least six people being robbed of their coat at gunpoint.

And just last month, a break-in was reported at a Canada Goose store in the Windy City, where CBS 2 news crews say they saw shattered windows and coat racks emptied.

Considered as one of Toronto’s most recognizable brands, the jackets have been a long-time favorite of celebrities and those-in-the-know of the fashion world.
