Shoe Fetish: this hand-burnished pair from J Shoes

April is just around the corner, which means a likely hike in the centigrade, but not quite to soaring sandal weather heights. Fortunately, spring brings with it an array of footwear choices—including this gender-bending option from J Shoes.

If you nerd out over craftsmanship (as you well should when it comes to footwear), J Shoes was born in the Midlands region of Britain, and stresses its commitment to the shoemaking history of the area. Their Spring collection, now in stores, is an array of carefully designed shoes that are at once subtle and statement-making. I can't help but respect a brand that whispers, rather than yells "there's something special here." Think clever cut-outs, brogue detailing, and pretty-as-can-be pastels.

The Sloan shoe pictured above has a rich, hand-burnished leather upper atop a leather sole, but what you'll notice most is the dusty hue that pairs nicely with its almost chukka-like shape. Wear this pair with concert-bound coloured denim—or, you know, while taming ponies on a sun-dappled Southern ranch. Stylistically, they suit both.
