Toronto come springtime might as well be set to Vivaldi's Four Seasons—a city awash in salt-streaked black coming to colourful life. So go on: unzip those wintry, knee-high boots.
The Orla Kiely x Clarks capsule collection features six feminine styles, and not even the subtle pastel-meets-faded denim, gender-bending femininity that's having a moment right now. It's unabashedly girly (and, incidentally, great to pair with said '80s denim hues or a draped dove grey frock).
The collaboration is an interesting one. Clarks is a tried-and-true British retailer, while Orla Kiely began as a textile designer, before being crowned by The Guardian as "the Queen of Prints," and going on to produce reliably retro looks. The collection is her first foray into footwear, and is carried exclusively in Canada by gravitypope.
You can expect pieces like the Matilda sandal. It's red, boasts a 2" block heel, and that patent sheen that can't help but remind you of childhood sundresses, ice cream sundaes, and glossy hair ribbons—oh wait, that's the '50s. Nevertheless, consider it a joyful round of shock therapy for that knee-jerk instinct to reach for black pumps well into May.
