Retail Therapy: The Coop Ink

The Coop Ink's co-owners (and brothers) John and Mike Corallo have filled the three-level building with high-end suits made both for the young and old, and stocked the shelves with an admirable denim selection.

The denim here caters to two demographics: young professionals, and clientele who may be older, but are still fashionably-inclined (though you won't find trends here, like anything skinny or tapered). Instead, think classic cuts with a modern touch.

“We have stuff that’s a little cleaner, even if it’s with the classic five pockets design,” says Mike Corallo. “Whether they’re manufactured with man-made or with natural fabrics, our denim lines match the quality of our high-end suiting.”

Most of the store's denim is imported from Denmark and Italy and sold at accessible price points. One of its best selling brands, the DL1961 ($198) is interwoven with horizontal strands of lycra to give the thighs and calves some stretch and breathing room.

Brands such as Sand (starting at $295) and Denham (starting at $275) represent more of a streetwear and casual look, while Albertos (starting at $210) come in darker hues and are considered a dressier option.

Depending on who you are and where you’re going, the staff at The Coop will not only recommend denim that fits your needs, but they’ll also educate you along the way. “The dress jean from Sand is a hot seller right now,” says Mike Corallo. "It’s a little bit more formal but this is a perfect jean in between the raw denim and super soft materials.”
