Loding, a Parisian boutique whose franchises are in France and other European countries (as well as Asia), brings a distinct European sensibility of mixing the old world with the new to Yorkville's menswear scene. French owners Julien and Marie Moga partnered with Toronto-based Yannick Bigourdan (from Nota Bene) to open the first North American location in Yorkville at the tail end of February 2014.
Loding looks to provide a consistent shopping experience, always pricing their wares appropriately per item. Shoes, for one, are all $315, regardless if you're choosing between brogues or boots; all dress shirts are $95 whether casual or slim cut; and the belts—no matter what the colour and texture—are $80.
The materials and processes are all top-notch, from full-grain calf leather shoes made with Goodyear and Blake construction, to shirts made of Egyptian cotton, and ties made of Italian silk.
"Since 1998, the pricing has always been Loding's premise, not to mark up the items just because of the brand name," says general manager Zofia Liddell. "The idea was to have a single price, not be fast fashion. As a result, they are able to purchase a large quantity, and instead of marking them up, to keep that up, there has never been a promotion or sale, keeping the quality of our product sustainable."
