“Most anticipated opening” is a dangerously overused phrase in restaurant coverage, so let’s say that what will probably be the only tasting-menu restaurant (Alo) to open in 2015 started taking reservations this week. Celebrity chef Mark McEwan also threw open the figurative shutters on his new downtown grocery store.
Just Opened
- Patrick Kriss’s tasting-menu restaurant, Alo is now open for business. It looks like he stuck pretty close to the plan he told us about back in early April.
- Dac Biet, a Vietnames burger joint, has opened 213 Church St. and apparently is already attracting persistent lineups. [Twitter]
- Word comes via Instagram that Anthony Rose’s latest (Is this his fifth already?), Rose & Sons Swan will have it’s grand opening next week. [Instagram]
- By all the prepared food, pastries, salads, breakfast and lunch items you might think Mark McEwan has opened another restaurant, but it's actually the second location for his tony grocery store.
Coming Soon
- BlogTO had the story that Terroni will soon open the second location for their bakery, Sud Forno, in the Bay Adelaide Centre East,

- If you find yourself on Dundas West at lunchtime head to Mean Bao for this week’s lunch pick.
- Patrick Kriss’s Alo just started taking reservations from the general public this week, but invited guests have been sharing photos of the food for a while and we had a recap of some of the best.
- Not much makes better sense than opening an up-market grocery store with a strong lunch and prepared foods program in the downtown PATH. We almost wonder what took Mark McEwan this long.
