Terra Lightfoot is different in the best possible way. She isn't the type of singer-songwriter we have in abundance in this area. She wears the blues and roots proudly. On her latest album, Every Time My Mind Runs Wild, she taps into some powerful emotions brought to brilliant, dramatic life by her big, beautiful voice and bewitching songcraft.
Lightfoot, who also plays in country band Dinner Belles, has announced a new slate of Canadian tour dates including two in Toronto: Aug. 15 at the Mod Club and Oct. 1 at Harbourfront Centre with Lee Harvey Osmond. She's also worked with some big names including Emmy Lou Harris, Gordon Lightfoot, Daniel Lanois and Ron Sexsmith.
Much of the work on Every Time My Mind Runs Wild was done at a recording studio in the Gibraltar Centre for the Arts on Toronto Island, so when she signed with us to shoot a video for her song “The Truth,” we thought it was the perfect spot.
We also thought it would be a great opportunity to show off this gorgeous stretch of sand on the south side of the island. Gibraltar Point Beach is located directly south of the arts centre between Centre Island Beach and the nudie beach Hanlan’s to the west. So, as a result of the extra 10-minute walk, it is rarely crowded and always gorgeous.
Check her out, get her music, see her live.
