A DOG SHOT by a police officer in the Bridle Path area has survived, according to Toronto Police Services.
On May 28 at approximately 3 p.m., a uniformed officer, responding to an unrelated call in the area, observed a dog running loose and acting in an aggressive manner on Royal Oak Drive.
Attempts were made by the officer to determine the owner of the dog, without success.
The dog then approached the officer, who kicked it back.
“The dog approached again in an aggressive manner, went at the officer, and that’s when the officer in self-defence shot the dog,” said Toronto police Const. TonyVella.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
“Anytime a police officer discharges his or her firearm, the professional standards unit will investigate the circumstances around the shooting,” Vella said.
