The hotel plans have been nixed but a 67-storey condominium-retail project is in the works for 1 Bloor St. E.
The site, located on the southeast corner of Yonge and Bloor Streets, was originally owned by Bazis International Inc.
The Kazakhstan-based developer planned to build a 80-storey luxury hotel-condo project but ended up selling the property to Great Gulf Group after losing financing.
Great Gulf has just submitted plans to the city proposing to build a 65-storey condo on top of a two-storey, 104,000-square-foot retail podium.
Back in November 2007, the original project received lots of media publicity after some investors stood in line for a week to be among the first to purchase suites — which ranged in price from $400,000 to $1,000,000.
No doubt, they’ll be back again when the new suites are up for sale in the spring.
