New shop has purse designs in the bag

Any fashion expert will agree that accessorizing is the key to any polished outfit. But accessorizing the accessories?

French purse designer Francois Renier revolutionized the concept 10 years ago with Un Jour Un Sac — his mix and match bag and strap brand. And now, Allyn Mills has taken it upon herself to introduce the concept to us local anglophones.

Mills, who has just opened a store in Lytton Park (also called Un Jour Un Sac), is a close acquaintance of Renier’s: she and the designer go back more than 20 years to school days in Paris.

Mills was born in Toronto, but spent much of her life in France. Last year, she returned to her hometown. However, upon her arrival she realized something was missing: Renier’s bags. So she contacted her friend and proposed the idea of a Canadian store.

"He was very excited," she says. "We had sort of been talking about it for the past couple years." The bags on average cost approximately $300, but range in price from $120 to $500. However, the beauty of the concept is that customers can buy a range of straps in addition to the purse.

"You can have a shoulder strap, or one with handles," says Mills. "People like the concept because you can make your bag unique.
