Midtown dispensaries raided by Toronto Police

Several midtown Toronto marijuana dispensaries were searched and had product seized yesterday. They were among the dozens across the city that Toronto Police raided as part of an operation they are calling Project Claudia.

According to one poster on reddit, the dispensaries who complied with a letter to cease operations (sent on May 18) suffered the most damage. In these cases, police forced their way into the business by breaking glass. Whereas, dispensaries that were still operating let the police in so that they could seize product.

While the federal government has announced plans to legalize marijuana next year, the only legal way to buy it at this time is with a doctor's prescription and have it delivered, by mail, from a federally-licensed producer.

Toronto Police said, via Twitter, that they will provide an update on how many dispensaries were searched and what was seized at a news conference today at 10:30 a.m.
