Lunch Pick: The winter grain bowl from Pusateri’s

Anyone with a fondness for fine foods is familiar with Pusateri’s. The T.O. mini-chain is aimed at those with a palate for toothsome Berkshire prosciutto, three-year old Parmigiano Reggiano and other items primed for an impromptu wine-and-cheese party. In addition to all the pantry-ready goods, there are plenty of grab ’n’ go items perfect for a healthy lunch.

Our pick is the winter grain bowl ($10), a new salad that has enough sustenance to see you through the day. A base of baby kale and arugula is capped with red quinoa, farro and cubes of roasted butternut squash, ready to drizzle with a niçoise dressing. Hunks of goat cheese and a smattering of maple roasted pecans finish it off. Pair with a fancy sparkling soda (like Sipp’s lemon and elderflower number) and a Sweet Flour Bake Shop sugar cookie, stamped with an uppercase ‘P’ for good measure.

Having been around for over a quarter of a century, Pusateri’s has been through its fair share of ups and downs, including a recent fire that devastated the Avenue Road location. But with an upcoming food hall in collaboration with Saks at Sherway Gardens, things are currently on the up and up.
