As any Parkdaler knows, the strip of King past Dufferin isn’t particularly known for its restaurant offerings. So when well-worn diner Harry’s shuttered its doors this past spring, a void was left in the area leaving pretty much nothing except Pharmacy, a haunt for beer sippers, and a No Frills. Enter Grant van Gameren along with ex-Bar Isabel chef Nate Young, who scooped up the greasy spoon with revitalization goals. Many a hurrah was uttered.

Outside, Harry’s is easily missed, with almost-closed blinds not an indication of much. But inside the joint is full of life, with blue booths bursting with plenty of hungry locals, a well-tatted staff and plenty of twinkling X-mas lights strung about. The menu is divided up into breakfast (which runs thankfully until 4 p.m.) and a lunch–dinner combo (starting at noon).

While the so-called morning offerings focus on eggs, the afternoon picks are all about the sandwiches and burgers. We like the red number ($10) in which a housemade patty of smoky red chorizo is cozied up next to some white American cheese, a slice of pineapple and mayo. The burg arrives in a basket with golden steak cut fries. Despite appearing not that large, it’s a deceptively filling portion and will have you well fired up for your Queen Street stroll.
