Lunch Pick: Patisserie La Cigogne's Alsatian quiche

Looking for a cozy joint in which to escape the cold? The original Patisserie La Cigogne on Bayview is just the ticket. While the name may not roll off the tongue for those whose French Immersion skills have lapsed, chomping down on their tasty fare is easy. Inside, the no-frills tables and chairs won’t make a designer's heart sing, but that’s because the focus is on making incroyable French faves. La Cigogne is known for its stunning desserts, however it’s not all about the sweet; the patisserie also does amazing lunches. Think quiche, tourtière and loaded baguette sandwiches.

Our choice is the traditional Alsatian quiche ($9.99). A deep buttery crust cradles an eggy centre that sidesteps the problem so many quiches have — that off-pudding watery texture. This filling is silky smooth and cuts beautifully when dug into with a fork. Hunks of ham and bacon and gooey Swiss cheese round out the golden quiche, which is served with a side of greens. Eat in and finish with one of those desserts or grab a slice to go for a lazy supper.
