Anyone who wants pasta to-go need look no further than Levetto. With roots in Thornhill, this pint-sized chain has expanded south, opening locations on College Street and Sudbury Street. The fast-casual spot boasts a concise menu that gets straight to the point: pizza, pasta and salads. Levetto aims to stand out from the competition by making all of its pizza and pasta from scratch.
Our pick is the carbonara ($10.50), because it’s winter and who doesn’t want to bathe in carbs? It’s a surprisingly hearty portion for the price, with homemade strands of spaghetti tangled up with curls of smoked bacon, a flurry of Grana Padano and egg.
Often carbonara can overwhelm with its richness, but this take is light enough to allow you to return to the office while breathing normally. Pair with a salad like the panzanella ($8). Grape tomatoes are tossed with spinach leaves, hunks of fior di latte, red onion strands and house-baked focaccia croutons.
Since the portions are, yes, giant, you’ll have leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch (plus, those croutons get so much better when they sop up all the dressing). If you have space, split the warm coconut semolina cake ($6) with a friend.
No Levetto to be found in your area? Stay tuned: more downtown locations are opening soon.
