Lunch Pick: Jerk chicken sandwich from Albert’s Real Jamaican

We love our Jamaican food. Albert’s Real Jamaican is a mainstay of St. Clair West, serving authentic West Indian fare to a loyal clientele. Patrons order at the counter before tucking into the grub in the low key environs. Eats include island favourites like curry goat, jerk chicken and oxtail and peas — though we’re partial to the jerk chicken sandwich ($6.50).

For this lunchtime fave, strips of succulent jerk chicken spill out of a folded coco bun, along with slices of tomato and cuke, plus carrot and iceberg lettuce for good measure. While one tends to think of jerk chicken possessing heat, in this case it's the lashings of spicy mayo that’ll have you reaching for a tissue to sop up a wayward tear. While other offerings at Albert’s fall on the rather heavy side, requiring a post-indulgence meat-nap, the sandwich will fill you up sans side effects.
