Kitchen Confidential: A meal that could slow even a cowboy down

Hot new country and western bar Rock ‘n’ Horse Saloon’s fried chicken meal has over half of daily fat and 101 per cent daily salt.

This downtown resto-bar is one of Toronto’s new cowboy-inspired hotspots. I advise avoiding the mechanical bull until after you’ve digested your meal! Watch out for the buttermilk fried chicken with jalapeno cornbread and coleslaw. The chicken is brined, soaked in buttermilk, dredged in a rice flour mix, deep-fried and then baked. Already a land mine of calories and fat, it also dishes up a day’s worth of sodium. You’ll have to do some major line dancing to work this meal off!
