Drink This: the nostalgic Kindergarten Cocktail from Brassaii

Mixologist Jonny Gray doesn't like to play by the rules. So, instead of putting together a traditional winter cocktail menu at Brassaii, he took to highlighting vegetables in his drinks, showing the similarities between the bar and the kitchen.

"Not a lot of people are doing this right now," notes Gray as he mixes together the elements for his nostalgic Kindergarten Cocktail, which conjures up a PB&J sandwich ($15). Into a shaker goes a blend of peanut butter syrup and maple syrup, two spoonfuls of strawberry jam, and some celery juice, which adds the vegetable component. Surprisingly, the celery gives the 'tail a bread-like quality. "Then you have the whole sandwich," Gray says. Wiser's small batch whiskey and Dry Sac sherry add the not so kid-friendly elements.

The playful beverage is topped with — what else? — a mini croissant that Gray recommends "dunking" into the drink. What fun!
