In the subterranean space that houses Hogtown's latest Mexican eatery, patrons are able to sip Patron (and various other libations) in a private tequila tasting room that resembles a semi-secluded drinking cave. El Caballito's bar manager Manny Contreras instructs the tequila-curious about the proper way to sip Mexico's most famous spirit: after letting some tequila blanco aerate, drinkers sniff the stuff three ways (a low, medium and then high sniff), and then sip it three times, conjuring up notes and vanilla and honey — not college-era bar memories.
For those who aren't ready to sip tequila alongside their antojitos — or street-style eats — cocktails are also featured on the menu. Manny's Margarita ($11.50) sees Tromba Blanco tequila infused with pink peppercorn and juniper berries, lending the spirit a touch of bitterness and kick. The tequila's paired with fresh lemon juice, Triple Sec, and agave syrup, and then served over ice.
And should late night imbibers require a little extra grub before heading home, the midnight taco might be just the ticket.
