Dream Homes: Prominent media mogul's $4.9 million midtown luxury residence now up for sale

Many midtowners walk by the luxury residence at 7 Sherwood Lane every day, without ever seeing it or knowing it’s there. The spacious home, tucked away on a quiet lane behind the shops on Yonge St., just south of Sherwood, was once an old dry cleaning plant called Century Cleaners.

Currently listed for $4.895 million with Chesnut Park Real Estate Limited, the property boasts limestone flooring, 14-foot ceilings, spectacular skylights, a mahogany panelled library and a rooftop garden and gazebo. The old Century Cleaners sign can still be found on the brick wall at the back of the house — which some may feel only adds to its character. The property was purchased by builder Joe Brennan in 1987 and rebuilt into four separate upscale houses, plus this reclusive home he claimed for himself.

The house was later scooped up by media mogul Allan Slaight, best known for building CHUM radio’s commercial success throughout ’60s and taking over Standard Broadcasting from Conrad Black in 1985.
