Chris Tucker comes to town

Following a lengthy hiatus, Chris Tucker has slowly been easing his way back into the public eye in the last few years. The Friday and Rush Hour star re-introduced his manic and glib comedic style through a national stand-up tour in 2011 and followed that up with a memorable performance in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook. We chatted with him last November, ahead of his highly raved-about stand up tour, and with rumors that Rush Hour 4 is possibly in the works, Tucker may just be on his way back to being one of the highest paid and most recognizable Hollywood stars.

Giving further momentum to Tucker’s rise, the Canadian Film Centre, Clement Virgo Productions, and TD will be presenting An Evening Honouring Chris Tucker next Monday, Feb. 24, as part of the Black History Month festivities. Hosted by CBC’s Garvia Bailey, Tucker’s work will be celebrated through clips, conversations, and an audience Q&A.

“Chris Tucker is a comic iconoclast who marches to his own rhythm. […] We are honored to have him as our guest for this year’s BHM event,” said acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Clement Virgo in a press release.

The event will be held at the Cineplex Odeon Varsity and VIP Cinemas and go from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, with a red carpet opportunity at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $20 and available online, with all proceeds going towards the Canadian Film Centre Diversity Scholarship Fund.
