Celebrating Richmond Hill’s arts

From an idea to a vision to a reality and a Hollywood-style event to unveil a new sculpture for the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Town of Richmond Hill, this was truly a memorable event. People from many cultures crowded inside and outside the art centre at the event.

In a setting resembling a Hollywood premier or party, stretch limos and sports cars were parked all along Yonge Street to drive VIPs to and from the event, the VIP reception, dinner and a fantastic performance in the theatre.

The bronze sculpture has a granite base, stands about 14 feet from the ground and weighs about 10 tons.

I took on this project as a part of Arts Richmond Hill four years ago, and over that period of time and through many different fundraising events, we were able to raise approximately $300,000 toward this spectacular sculpture. The sculpture was unveiled just in time to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Town of Richmond Hill in late 2013. It has been a stunning addition to our main street.

During the evening, I was honoured to be recognized as a grand patron of the arts by the board of directors of Arts Richmond Hill for my involvement in the building of the theatre, my purchasing its grand piano, fundraising the donation of $166,000 to the town for the operation of the theatre and for putting together this fantastic sculpture and many other accomplishments in the arts.

I want to sincerely thank all of the local businesses and partners for their sponsorship and participation in the fundraising events.
