UPDATED: Royal St. George’s College (RSGC) closed its doors for two days in late October after an anonymous threat was reportedly received targeting the school.
RSGC is an independent school for boys grades 3 to 12 located on Howland Avenue in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.
It opened in 1961.
Wilfrid Laurier, as well as McMaster universities received threats in the past week, increasing the need for campus security.
In an email sent out by RSGC’s headmaster to Crescent School and other Toronto private schools not affiliated with RSGC, it was stated that the threat to RSGC was made anonymously online.
An RSGC student, who did not want his name used, confirmed the school was closed on Oct. 22 and 23, and that a letter was also posted to the RSGC community Facebook page, stating in part: “I have received an anonymous email threat to the safety of the children and adults in the school.”
It continues on to inform parents of the shutdown.
The email states that the Toronto Police Service is investigating both the source and validity of the threat.
A call to Toronto police by Post City confirmed that a file and investigation were ongoing at a school in the Bloor Street and Bathurst Street area, on Howland (where RSGC is located). But due to the nature of the investigation, they were unable to release further details.
The RSGC Facebook letter, obtained by Post City, does not confirm when the school will reopen.
