Cult favourite Jamaican restaurant Allwyn’s Bakery is opening a new location in North York
Allwyn’s Bakery — which has been a highly regarded but under-the-radar Jamaican food destination for roughly 20 years — is set to make its first expansion with a new location at Yonge and Sheppard.
The North York strip mall shop has had an ardent following despite its out-of-the-way location and lack of exposure in mainstream media. But manager Patricia Li, daughter-in-law of owner C.K. Chung, says that awareness has been spreading online as of late.
“A lot more people are coming to know about us through Facebook, Twitter, Google and Yelp,” she says. “We’ve become so much busier, and the business has grown enough for a second location.”
The shop is known for its Jamaican standards, such as jerk chicken, curried goat, oxtail and house-made coco buns. Post City deemed Allwyn’s jerk chicken sandwich to be one of Toronto’s best a few years ago.
The new Allwyn’s will be located in a food court on the ground floor of the Emerald Park condo building and is expected open in September.
