Coca-Cola caused quite a stir in October when it announced that its cans would be going white as part of its Arctic Home campaign. The fiasco didn’t last long. The soft drink tycoon is already re-launching the polar bear-themed white cans with red ones, because apparently dealing with a white can of Coke is just a tad too complex for customers.
One of the biggest complaints is that the white cans look too similar to Coke’s low-calorie cousin, Diet Coke. But, they’re different — the non-diet Coke cans have polar bears on them, and are conspicuously missing the word “diet.” Others almost had a conniption when they couldn’t find the red cans in their grocery store. (Here’s a clue: there’s red lettering. And the cans have polar bears on them for Coca-Cola’s massively-hyped polar bear campaign). Others claim that cola in a white can tastes different (it doesn’t).
It could have been worse. Back in the ‘90s, Australians had to deal with Bart Simpson Clear Cola. It tasted like cola, but looked like lemonade. A white can of Coca-Cola is tame in comparison.
Instead of ripping the white cans off store shelves immediately — you know, to save consumers from mass hysteria — Coca-Cola has decided to let the cans sell out. Get ‘em while you can, then eBay.
