The face of the GTA may soon be changing as Build Toronto, the city’s real estate development corporation, announced plans Wednesday to move forward on four new large-scale projects.
The four sites set for development are:
1) 4050 Yonge St. (at York Mills)
Located on the northwest corner of Yonge and York Mills, the site is currently a commuter parking lot for TTC passengers. The city is looking to build a 440,000-square-foot office tower and is in talks with the TTC to have them make it their headquarters.

2) 1035 Sheppard Avenue West (Sheppard Ave. and Allen Rd.)
This 22 hectare location, adjacent to the Downsview subway station and with a view of Toronto, is expected to host a new mixed use community with office and retail space and over 3000 units of high rise and low rise residential.

3) 154 Front Street East (Sherbourne St. and Front St.)
This site, designated as a regeneration area, has a 350,000-square-foot potential in a very desirable location. According to The Globe and Mail, the city would likely just sell the land outright to a condo developer in exchange for cash.

4) 260 Eighth Street (Islington Ave. and Lakeshore Blvd.)
This vacant 10 hectare industrial lot is located south of the QEW and a major rail terminal between Islington and Kipling.

Build Toronto currently has a portfolio of 31 city properties, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in potential market value. The idea behind the arms-length organization is to help bring in cash for the city while redeveloping city-owned sites that have been ignored or underused.
