Yuletide cheer seems far more attainable with the addition of a yule log to any holiday spread. Also known as bûche de Noël, these handsome cakes have a history that reaches back to tribes from Europe’s north who would celebrate the winter solstice during Yule. The pagan holiday’s grand finale saw a giant log being burned to help shrug off winter’s darkness. Eventually, the sweet version arrived.
