Condo king Brad Lamb’s proposal for a 45-storey condo tower next to King Street’s Royal Alexandra Theatre has been rejected by city councillors.
The project — a joint venture between Lamb, architect Peter Clewes, Niche Developments and HarHay Construction Management — was voted down because of height concerns and worries about how it would impact neighbours.
Local councillor Adam Vaughan voted against the project but called the design "astonishing."
The plan includes a public square in front of the building that would help focus attention on the Royal Alex.
Anticipating the city’s decision, Lamb and his team have already filed an appeal with the Ontario Municipal Board — which has the power to give the project the green light.
