Grant van Gameren’s restaurant-opening team is taking over Harry’s, a longstanding Parkdale diner. The chef posted a job ad on Facebook late last week seeking applicants for line cook positions.
According to the posting, Nate Young will lead the kitchen team at Harry’s. Young has worked in the kitchen at van Gameren’s Bar Isabel since its early days in 2013.
Robin Goodfellow and Mike Webster, van Gameren’s longstanding partners are also listed as participants in this project.
The ad describes their plans to keep Harry's as “a neighbourhood restaurant that stands on the same principles and passion that [former owners] Tommy and his brother George held for decades.” Based on its reference to “our noble quest to carry the spatula torch for another 50 years,” it also sounds like they don’t plan to depart too drastically from the diner menu.
Harry’s will be the third new restaurant in quick succession for the team after El Rey Mezcal Bar in Kensington and Pretty Ugly, also in Parkdale.
