Spotted: Toast of the town

Once relegated to the comfort of home kitchens, toast is finally getting the love it deserves. At noted restos across town, the formerly ho-hum brekkie meal is getting jazzed up with all kinds of fancy toppings.

Cowboy Bob toast (a.k.a. toast with cinnamon and sugar) this ain’t.

Chinatown’s Peoples Eatery is slinging out spiffy toasts such as a slab of challah topped with chicken liver mousse, seared foie gras, caramelized and pickled shallots, and French’s mustard.

In the heart of T.O., Drake One Fifty does everybody’s favourite avocado toast, but ups the ante with a soft boiled egg and lobster. Swoon.

Finally, Grey Tiger outdoes the competition, toast-wise, with a menu wholly devoted to toasts. Changing often, the concise menu may boast combos like the Priscilla, with PB, banana and coconut bacon sat atop a generous slice of sourdough Hokkaido milk bread.
