In anticipation of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premiere today, we spoke with our local trio of classic heroes who often roam our town and volunteer at charity events.
Toronto Batman
Day job: Standup comedian and actor
How did you get involved with Batman?
“I was a fan since I was young and then it tapered off. Then about 11 years ago, during a fight with pneumonia, I started rereading. I decided I was going to get a Batman costume. Kind of took off from there.”
Batman’s superhero fact:
“I think I actually enjoyed Robin more than Batman, specifically Tim Drake.”
Toronto Superman
Day job: Home renovator
What is it about Superman that ignited your fandom?
“It was the idea of someone that can not be corrupted. Something good that is and always will be good.… To me that’s part of the major challenge — being good in the face of cynicism.”
Superman’s superhero fact:
“I am just as bumbling as Clark Kent. I trip over everything and have a nervous speech pattern, except for when I’m in the suit, and my friends find it hilarious.”
Toronto Wonder Woman
Day job: Education co-ordinator
What is it you like about being Wonder Woman? “I love seeing the reactions I receive when I meet children and adults at events. The look on their faces when they light up and the smiles make my heart happy.”
Wonder Woman’s superhero fact:
“I wouldn’t trade my custom-made suit for just about anything. A lot of hard work went into designing, creating something that looked epic, unique.”
