Hemant Bhagwani takes on Thornhill with The Fat Beet

Hemant Bhagwani (of Amaya and Indian Street Food Co. fame) is at work on a new concept. The restaurateur is turning his gaze to Thornhill with The Fat Beet, a new restaurant that will serve Mediterranean, Israeli and Indian fare.

“It’s not fusion,” says Bhagwani. “It’s a cross-over.”

Bhawgani was inspired during a recent trip to Tel Aviv, taking particular interest in the work of Israeli celebrity chef Eyal Shani.

The new restaurant, which is set to open this Friday, is located at 7330 Yonge St. It will offer lunch, brunch and dinner, with menu items including hummus ($9.80), roasted cauliflower ($9.80), baby calamari ($16.20) and gourmet pita platters with house-made pitas. The Fat Beet will operate on the same tip-free principle as Indian Street Food Co.
