Restaurant Update: Mitchell Bates joins Grey Gardens, Beaumont Kitchen open

Despite the growing list of restaurants Grant van Gamerern plans to open (see our coverage of his plans for Kensington and Parkdale), it looks like his former Black Hoof partner, Jen Agg, may be in the lead for most attention-grabbing opening with Grey Gardens. See below for news on who she has landed as partner and chef.

Just Opened

  • With their expansion to Toronto, Saks is upping the city’s luxury-shopping-meets-luxury-dining game. Beaumont Kitchen has opened at Sherway and its sister restaurant, Leña, also by O&B, is planned for the downtown Richmond location.
  • Word comes via Twitter that Torteria San Cosme has opened in Kensington.
  • Office workers looking to add to their list of healthy options in the PATH will be happy to read that Greenhouse Juice and iQ Food have opened a co-location in First Canadian Place next ot Maman.
  • Dine.to reports that Ciao Europa Cafe is Liberty Village’s newest source of pizzas, gluten-free tortas and panini. Drinks go from coffee by day to wine in the evenings.

Coming Soon

  • Batch by Creemore is about to open at 70 Victoria St. The space was Beer Academy (also owned by MolsonCoors) and Duggan’s before that.

  • Joanne Kates reviews Miku, Toronto’s current it-scene sushi spot.
  • This week’s lunch pick by Karolyne Ellacott comes by way of Toronto’s rising chef talent at The Chefs’s House.
  • We filtered the DineSafe reports from the past month and have a few we think you might find interesting.

Changes and Other News

  • The Crest, one of St. Clair West’s oldest eating establishments has closed for renovations.
  • Kris Schlotzhauer announced on Instagram that he’s leaving his post as chef at Enoteca Sociale to open his own venture.
  • Things didn't go entirely according to plan for the Das Gasthaus raffle. (Not surprisingly, some would say, given the scheme’s unusual nature.) Torstar reports that Shawn McKerness, the chosen winner, has turned down the prize. No word if there is a runner up.
