Mount Pleasant’s Smoked & Cracked is a homey slice of the east coast. Warm mismatched wood furniture maintains the casual vibe, much like the gigantic chalkboard menu that dominates one wall. Questions? The server will walk you through each dish in great detail, including the rotating specials and other items that will appeal to the fish-eschewing type. But it’s the lobster roll that’s the star player here.
The roll, which has received much praise around the 6ix, is available in two permutations: hot and cold. The former (a.k.a. the Newport) features generous hunks of warm lobster decorated with tarragon in a lettuce-lined, butter-basted bun. Meanwhile, the cool East Coast version sees the rich pieces of lobster bathed in a light mayo dressing and tucked into the top-cut bun. Both iterations contain about half a crustacean’s worth of meat and come paired with a salad — or kettle chips — and a pickle, making this a smart lunch pick. And those in need of a few more cals can bookend the meal with a deep-dish butter tart.
