Lunch Pick: A comforting sandwich from the bakery at Colette

Around the corner from the busy Bathurst and King intersection, Colette Grand Café is a welcome slice of tranquility. Inside, vaulted ceilings and plenty of French blue and yellow accents imbue the space with a rather Parisian feel. The café portion — as opposed to the official dining region — is situated next to the bakeshop. For a quick bite, order at the counter and seat yourself at the service-free space.

Baguettes and braided epi bread are among the offerings, but for those who want some nosh tout de suite, a sandwich will cut into the hunger. The bacon and turkey ’wich sees handsome layers of the protein paired up with slivers of apple for a taste of fall. Sliced Emmental and arugula finish off the pile of fillings, all of which are tucked into a sesame-seed strewn roll. Be sure to get the sandwich heated to ensure the cheese is melted just-so.

Add a pot of tea and a macaron — in seasonal flavours like concord grape and, of course, pumpkin — and you’re set for the afternoon.
