This weekend, June 7 and 8, marks the second annual Field Trip festival at Garrison Common in Fort York. The festival, brought to you by the fine folks at Arts & Crafts record label, is now running two days and is chock-a-block with incredible music, food, a children’s area for hipster parents, live art installations and much more. Here are 10 of our favourite things at this year’s Field Trip.
The Kills
Not sure we can say it enough, but The Kills are good. Very good. And they play Saturday night at 8 p.m., just before the evening’s big headliner Interpol.
Buying stuff
This year, Field Trip features an Etsy Marketplace where you can pick up handmade and vintage goods from such fine purveyors as Meister Shades and Foxy Originals. In addition, the festival will also be home to a Drake General Store pop-up.
Broken Social Scene
Although this is only the second Field Trip, we can safely say, “It wouldn't be Field Trip without a BSS show.” The most famous hipster musical collective in Canadian music history headlines on Sunday night.
Haircuts
The righteous dudes from Crow’s Nest barbershop will be scissoring with reckless abandon. Because Field Trip understands that sometimes, you need to go to a concert and get your hair cut at the same time.
Hydra
A unique supergroup of sorts that combines the talents of Feist with super-cool music types Snowblink and AroarA. We expect magic.
So. Much. Food.
Field Trip is one festival that takes its culinary pursuits very seriously. Some of this year’s vendors include Buster’s Sea Cove, Fidel Gastro and Gourmet Gringos.
Constantines
Another big reunion show at Field Trip, this one sees the incredible Bry Webb hook up with his old Constantines bandmates for a well-deserved encore in front of what are sure to be adoring fans. It’s kind of a big deal.
Custom Field Trip cocktails
This spring, a contest was held to decide the perfect Field Trip cocktail. Apparently, things got pretty intense, because they ended up with two. So, we’ll have to try both the Field Trip Punch created by Bryn Bratton Wall of This End Up and the Garrison Common cocktail from the Spoke Club.
Lowell
One of the most exciting new artists on the Arts & Crafts roster is Toronto’s Lowell. With an acclaimed EP — I Killed Sara V. — under her belt, there are plenty of folks clamouring to have a listen to her upcoming debut album, which is slated for release later this year.
Art
Field Trip will also be home to a number of art installations, including work by the incredible sculpture artist Julia Hepburn and other notables plucked from the city’s artistic community.
