Drink This: the Cosmopolitan from ACE

Sometimes a club is the answer. Sitting pretty in the beloved former Footwork space, Toronto's newest place to hobnob is dubbed ACE — not to be confused with The Ace on Roncy (though chances are, there is no customer overlap in this Ace-related Venn diagram). The space is outfitted with white couches and a smallish dance floor that fills up quickly.

While the bar is still being rounded out, the bartender notes that the throwback Cosmopolitan ($14) is the current signature drink. A far cry from the hipster-approved bourbon-based tipples of, well, everywhere, it's refreshing to sip on something that gained popularity thanks to Sex and the City. (Remember — they added more cranberry juice to the mix to ensure that the colour could be seen on-camera.)

This version matches Absolut vodka with Triple Sec as well as lime and, naturally, cranberry juice, making for a sweet and slightly cheesy beverage that winks to the surroundings.

Just stick to the seats when sipping; martini glasses never fare well on the dance floor.
